Course Instructor

Brandon Rogers, BS (Biophysics), MA (English and Comp. Lit.)

Brandon Rogers is a professional writer, editor, and researcher dedicated to creating inclusive, engaging, and effective healthcare communication. With over 5 years of experience working for top-tier biomedical research universities and clinical investment companies, he excels at translating complicated technical language into entertaining and easily digestible stories without sacrificing editorial accuracy or scientific rigor. As a PhD candidate in Communication, Rhetoric, and Digital Media, Brandon’s research investigates how media (from MRIs to video games) influence what we mean by “health” and inform our strategies for achieving it. In his dissertation, for example, he asks how various technologies have aided in the creation of “bisexual men” as a unique health disparities population that deserves certain rights and responsibilities. He has spoken about his findings at national and international conferences, and his work will be featured in the forthcoming Best of Journals in Rhetoric and Composition 2020.

Ron Stoppable is a Junior at North Carolina State University who strives to provide a wholesome, nutritious, economical, and readily available supply of basic and processed foodstuffs. Throughout his coursework, Ron devotes much of his time to studying the microbiology and chemistry of foods and pharmaceuticals. In doing so, he earned a place as a lab assistant for the organic chemistry lab. His expertise in the classroom also landed him an internship at Campbell Soup where he assisted in the product development efforts for their entire snack line. This summer, Ron will be taking the opportunity to improve his interpersonal and leadership skills by taking online courses in science communication. After graduation, he aims to apply for graduate programs in food science as a step towards becoming a food scientist for the federal government.
