Assignments

This course is divided into 5 units, and each unit has a number of assignments to submit.

1. Unit 1 (a & b) teaches students to write professionally about themselves in order to describe their research interests and experiences. They will also learn how to navigate the genre of professional email correspondence.
2. Unit 2 homes in on the art and practice of reviewing scientific literature to better understand the current state of students’ respective fields.
3. Unit 3 applies the skills learned in Units 1 and 2 to simulate the grant-writing process by requiring students to write a research funding proposal for internal undergraduate grant opportunities at NC State.
4. Unit 4 focuses on translating written scientific prose into oral/visual presentations for specific audiences.
5. Unit 5 emphasizes the role of social media in science communication and asks student to create and critique social media posts for a general audience.
